Kota Kinabalu, Sabah – Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, has firmly refuted claims that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government has targeted or victimised officers and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of state government agencies who were appointed during the previous Warisan administration. Hajiji’s statement comes amidst ongoing discussions regarding the transition of power and the continuity of governance in Sabah.

“Let me be clear, the GRS government has never, and will never, victimise any officer or CEO appointed by the previous administration,” Hajiji stated in a recent press conference. “We value the expertise and experience of these individuals and recognise their crucial role in the effective functioning of our state agencies.”

This assurance aims to dispel any concerns or perceptions of political interference in the administration of state agencies. Hajiji emphasized that the focus remains on ensuring efficient and transparent governance, regardless of who held the position prior to the change in government.

The Warisan-led government, which held power from 2018 to 2020, appointed several individuals to key positions in state agencies. Following the shift in political landscape with the formation of the GRS government in 2020, questions arose regarding the fate of these appointments and whether they would face repercussions.

Hajiji’s statement serves to clarify that the GRS administration prioritizes stability and continuity. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a professional and impartial environment within state agencies, allowing them to effectively serve the people of Sabah. “We want to ensure a smooth transition and that the vital services provided by these agencies are not disrupted,” he added.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister underscored the government’s commitment to meritocracy and competence in all appointments. While acknowledging the previous appointments, Hajiji also hinted at potential future reviews to ensure that all individuals in leadership positions possess the necessary skills and qualifications to meet the evolving needs of the state.

The move is seen by many as a strategic effort to foster trust and confidence among civil servants and the public. By explicitly denying any victimisation of Warisan-appointed officials, Hajiji aims to project an image of stability, inclusivity, and a focus on delivering results for the people of Sabah. This also helps to solidify the GRS government's reputation as a pragmatic and non-partisan administration dedicated to the well-being of the state.

The statement has been welcomed by various stakeholders, including business leaders and civil society groups, who have expressed their support for a stable and predictable governance environment. Analysts suggest that Hajiji’s proactive approach in addressing these concerns is crucial for maintaining investor confidence and attracting further investment into Sabah.

Looking ahead, the GRS government aims to build upon this foundation of stability and continue to strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of state agencies. Hajiji reiterated his commitment to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to achieve the shared goal of a prosperous and progressive Sabah.
